QUESTION AND ANSWER OF TRAFFIC NIGHT MARE

QUESTION AND ANSWER OF TRAFFIC NIGHT MARE

1.            What evidence is there to show that the residents of Beach Road are against the new traffic arrangements?
Ans. There is adequate evidence which testifies that the residents of Beach Road are against the new traffic arrangements, because the Monday, on which the new arrangements were executed or brought into force, the residents call it the "Black Monday". Besides, the residents protest that the new arrangements have turned their hitherto placid and peaceful course of life into a nightmare. One of the residents states that the new traffic arrangements have squeezed all the northbound traffic into the Beach Road; therefore, they need two wings to cross the road. Moreover, the residents intend to convene an emergency meeting to look into the matter. All these circumstance bear profound evidence that the Beach Road residents are strongly against the new traffic arrangements.

2.            Does the spokesman believe that the residents' complaints about the new traffic arrangements are justified? Support your answer with a reason.
Ans. The spokesman does not believe that the residents' complaints about the new traffic arrangements are justified, because the authorities consider the change has been made to improve the traffic flow. Besides, the spokesman underestimates the protest of residents simply by saying that once the residents would get used to the new arrangements all the complaints would die down. It means the authorities have turned deaf ear to the protest of the residents, and will not pay heed unless the public pressure is build up with immense intensity.

3.            Why does the spokesman mention that the studies for the new traffic arrangements were computer-aided?
Ans. The spokesman mentions that the studies for new traffic arrangements were computer-aided only to support and back-up their points of view that the new arrangements were executed for the betterment of the flow of traffic. By mentioning computer-aided study, he intends to psychologically convince the people and authenticate their plea and point of view that they are improving the traffic arrangements. The word computer-aided study is mentioned to reduce the magnitude and intensity of protest demonstrated by the residents of the Beach Road.

4.            Does the spokesman feel sympathetic or unsympathetic towards the demand for a pedestrian crossing? Give reasons for your answer.

Ans. The spokesman does not feel sympathetic towards the demand for the pedestrian crossing; because he states that presently they have no plan of installing such crossing. However, they will monitor the situation and if need be such crossing would be installed, but the expenses or expenditure incurred on it and the physical infrastructure of pedestrian must not mar or interfere the flow of the traffic. It shows that the authorities are very much worried about or have much concern for the flow of traffic, but they have turned deaf ear to hue and cry of the residents of the Beach Road and they are least concerned with the peace, convenience and comfort of the residents.
